ug/L To PPM Calculator: Convert Micrograms/L To PPM (μg/L → PPM Chart)

We will show you how to convert ug/L to PPM (micrograms per liter to Parts Per Million). You can do this conversion in your head. But, to help everybody out, we created a ug/L to PPM calculator (insert ug/L, get PPM) as well as a conversion chart (1-10,000 μg/L to PPM) for quick look-up.

Let’s start with the calculator and then look at the formula and the conversion chart:

Here is how you can use this online calculator:

Say you want to convert 550 ug/L to PPM. You just insert ‘550’ in the ug/L input field, and you get this result (screenshot):

We can quickly see that 550 ug/L is equal to 0.55 PPM.

Let’s have a look at these 2 units of concentration and the relationship between them:

ug/L To PPM Formula

ug/L stands for micrograms per liter. PPM stands for Parts Per Millions. Here is the key relationship between these micrograms per liter and PPMs:

1 μg/L = 0.001 PPM

Basically, 1 μg/L is one-thousandth of a PPM. Conversely, 1 PPM is equal to 1000 μg/L. From this, we can write an equation that converts μg/L to PPM:

PPM = μg/L / 1000

In order to convert μg/L to PPM, we need to divide μg/L by a factor of 1000.

Example: How many PPM is 1200 μg/L? We just insert 1200 μg/L in the equation and get the result like this:

PPM (1200 μg/L) = 1200 μg/L / 1000 = 1.2 PPM

We can quickly calculate that 1200 μg/L is equal to 1.2 PPM. Here is the full conversion chart, spanning from 1 μg/L to 10,000 μg/L:
